Charms
An expression of the inner
you!
A charm bracelet
is an item of jewelry which is worn around the wrist and
represents events in a
person’s life which are very personal, important to that
person. It can also
represent the mood of the person wearing the bracelet
and, if they are creative, it can also be set-up on a
theme basis.
There are thousands
upon thousands of charm bracelet charms to choose
from. The choices are
limited only by the imagination, interests and cost.
Some charms are made
using diamonds, precious metals and gemstones.
These charms are quite
expensive and out-of-range for most individuals.
However, there are affordable
charms that meet any need, interest or
desire.
A note of
caution: Some
manufacturers have used “lead” in their charms.
There are incidences where
children have died or become very ill after ingesting a lead
charm. Know who
you are dealing with and make sure they are reputable and
trustworthy. You definitely want to make sure you know what
was used to make the charm.
The charm is a
reflection of your interest or a memory and as such can
be mixed and matched to reflect a specific mood or
arranged in a specific theme.
No one knows for
sure where or how the charm bracelet became popular, but the
common theory is the charm was used as an amulet to keep
evil spirits and bad luck away from the person wearing the
charm.
It was thought that
in ancient Egypt, charms were
used for identification and also as symbols of faith and
luck. The
Egyptians also believed the charms were used to identify an
individual to their gods after death. In the Dark Ages the charms took on
new meaning as they represented the wearer’s family origin,
their religious convictions as well as their political
convictions.
There are different
styles of bracelets, most notably, the Italian charm
bracelet. This
type of bracelet deviates drastically from the standard
charm bracelet in that it has charms that are flat and
snapped onto the body of the bracelet itself. The Italian
charm bracelet is also different. The bracelet has modular links which are
hooked together to form the bracelet. The charm face (design) is soldered or
glued onto the surface of the modular
link.
The bracelets are
not the only items showcasing charms. Key chains as well as cell phones and
handbags can reflect the mood of the wearer, most notably
by the charms.
